The Globe Theatre

also known as the

Shakespeare Globe Theatre
was not only one of

most famous playhouse’s

of all time,
but the play house
where Shakespeare performed
many of his greatest plays.

 



 

 

 

 

Built from oak, deal, and stolen playhouse frames,
the 3 storey, 3000 capacity Globe Theatre,
co-owned by William Shakespeare

has become almost as famous as the playwright himself.

Fondé en 1993 par l'acteur et metteur en scène
américain Sam Wanamaker,

le Shakespeare globe théâtre est un lieu unique
dédié à l'exploration de l'oeuvre de shakespeare.

 

Le premier Théâtre du Globe était un théâtre élisabéthain,
construit vers 1598, dans le Bankside de Londres.

C'était l'un des quatre théâtres principaux
avec le Théâtre du Cygne, celui de La Rose et celui de L'Espoir.

De nombreuses pièces de William Shakespeare y ont été créées.

 

Le Globe a brûlé jusqu'aux fondations en 1613, le toit ayant pris feu

pendant une représentation de Henry VIII de Shakespeare.

Il a été reconstruit l'année suivante sur la rive opposée de la Tamise,
cette fois avec un toit carrelé, mais il fut fermé
par les puritains, comme tous les théâtres, en 1642

et démoli en 1644 pour faire place à des logements.

 

L'actuel théâtre a été rebâti à l'identique de l'original de 1598
à quelques dizaines de mètres de l'emplacement d'origine.

Comme au XVIème siècle,
la scène et le public sont en plein air,
les spectacles ont donc lieu essentiellement l'été.
Le Globe a été d'abord dirigé par Mark Rylance,
remplacé par Dominic Dromgoole depuis fin 2005.
